Swami Vivekananda was born as Narendranath Dutta in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was the disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. He is known to have actively promoted the philosophy of Vedanta and introduced Hinduism to the Western world. Vivekananda always exhorted that the most practical form which Vedanta should take immediately was the uplift of the masses and relief of their sufferings.
