Meaning Of Various appellations God
Om – The audible symbol of the unchanging eternal,universal,Supreme God.
Tat-That which is beyond sensory perception, mental imagination and intellectual inquiry, i.e., transcends all three.
Sat-That truth from which has emerged all there is,and which sustains and permeates the whole creation. Om Tat Sat is the essence of Vedantic Philosophy.
Shri-Represents Lakshmi or wealth,prestige,splendour,power earned through rightous means.
Naryan-‘Sarvabhootantaryami’ The Lord that is manifested in a congregation of individuals is called Narayana.
When people come together with good intentions, they achieve th epower of Narayana and difficult tasks are accomplished,’Narayana’,this words is a sandhi od two words.”Nir + Aayan = Nir – water,Aayan – eye”.Narayana is that Ananda Swarupa Lord,the Form of Bliss which when experienced brings tears of joy when one experience that state,he sees Loard Narayana.
Purushottama-Perfect being, free form ‘Raga’and ‘Dwesha’ the most majestic person,the foremost and the first who dwells beyond the realms of illusion and delusion. He is Pureshothama.
Guru-Being perfect himself,is the only capable person to lead others to a state of perfection. This is an appellation for God among the followers of Guru Dattatreya. The preceptor (Guru)who reveals the Atma and makes one conscious of its Existence of one’s Reality,has the highest place in the sikh system of worship. The collection of the teachings of the Guru – referred to as Granth Sahib is extolled and revered by the Sikhs.
Siddha-The Realised one, the goal of the Jain creed
Buddha-The awakened one, the goal of the Buddhist creed.
Skanda-Remover of faults that come in the way of perfection.A creed in Southern India call God ‘SKanda’.
Vinayaka-A name appealing to Ganesha worshippers.
Savita-One who inspires to activity, the sun.Some people worship the Sun as Representing God.The Universal being is the Fire, the Wind,the Sun,the Moon and all else.He is the fire that illumines all.He is the rain that feeds the plants and provides sustenance.So he can be adored as Fire (Agni) or as wind (vayu) or as Rain(Varuna) as Having graciously assumed all those beneficent forms.
Pavka-Agni, Zoroastrians worship Fire as representing God.
Brahma-The all-pervanding,formless,attribute less Reality form which the whole creation has emerged and into which it re-merges.
Mazda-Ahura – Mazada.The Great god .Zoroastrian appellation for God.
Yahva-Jehova-A Jewish appellation for God .
Shakti-God is worshipped in the form of kali,Chandika, MahishasuraMardini,etc., by the Shakti worshippers.
Ishu pita-Jesus spoke of god as our Father in Heaven.
Prabhu-The Supreme Lord.
Rudra-He blinds you in bonds of Samsara and makes You cry.when you surrender to him, and undergo rigorous austerities, -A Shaivite appellation for God.
Vishnu-The All-pervanding universal consciousness.
Ram-Embodiment of Dharma. The Kodanda- Bow which can send the arrow straight to the target.
Krishna-Embodiment of prema.
Flute-Flute Symbol of the egoless,desire less seeker through whom he plays enthralling tunes.
Rahim-The compassionate one.A Muslim appellation for God.
Tao-The Chinese appellation.
Vasudeva-One who has made all beings his home, Vaishnavite name.
Go –Vanni- illuminating Power of God ,cow – appeals to the Go-rakshah Brahmins creed.
Vishwarupa-The Gita Declares that Spirit of Krishna envelopes and resides in all that we see in the world.This is the Lord.It enjoins one that he be free form attachment and hatred and look upon all mankind with an integrated vision.
Chidanand-The Atma is the truest respresentative of the Supreme Reality.Its atributes are Sat-Chit-Ananda,Eternal,Blissful,Consciousness.
Advitya-the only one Reality that is the basis of this multiplicity.Like oil in mustard,butter in milk, water in earth,fire in the timber,God is Present but not visible.
Akal-One who transcends time,Sikhism.
Nirbhaya-The fearless one, makes his devotees fearless too.
Athma Linga-Atma is the symbol of supreme Godhead.
Shiva-The auspicious one. The above two are Shaivite appellations.
Prabhu-The Sarva Dharma Symbol of the Satya Sai Organisation is the assertion of ‘The Harmony of Religions’.The Unity of all Faiths and the acceptance of all approaches.
