Lord Rama is one of the avatars of Maha Vishnu and is considered by many to have taught the ideal way to live life as a human being. Throughout his life, he demonstrated how to perform one’s duty as a King, son, husband and brother. Swami says that the ‘Rama Nama’ is sweeter than honey and focused chanting of the name will give one the taste of the divine nectar itself. Sri Rama Navami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Rama. According to the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on the 9th day of Chaitra month.

As part of the celebrations, Rama Kathas (stories of Sri Rama) are read out and Rama bhajans are rendered. ‘Panagam’ and ‘Buttermilk’ are prepared and distributed to devotees in temples. This section contains more information about the festival for the Gurus.
