Pebbles or Coins
Objective:
To make the Group I children understand that the Chakra, Shankh and Gada in the hands of Goddess Lakshmi represents Time (chakra), Sound (Shankh) and Energy (Gada) and hence we should never waste any of these.
Materials required
Pebbles or Coins, Tin container.
How to Play
- The Children should sit with their backs to the Guru, perhaps in a circle facing outwards with the Guru in the middle.
- Ask the children to close their eyes and listen carefully.
- The Guru should drop the pebbles in the container one by one.
- As they hear the pebbles falling, the children are asked to count them one by one.
- At first they can all count them out loud together.
- Then ask the children to count the pebbles silently to themselves as they are dropped one by one into the tin. The Guru should drop a few pebbles very slowly taking them close to the tin container.
- As the children’s listening and concentration increases the Guru should gradually increase the number of pebbles dropped and also drop more quickly, maybe in twos and threes.
- Remind the children that they are not competing with each other but against themselves.
Suggested questions for discussion in class:
- Did you all enjoy this activity? Why?
- Initially why were there so many different answers?
- What happened when they stopped talking and concentrated better? Was it difficult to concentrate?
- Is silence important for focusing better?
- What are the different ways in which we waste our energy and time? How can we ensure that we don’t waste our energy and time in future?
Inference
Gurus after the discussions are advised to explain how Time, Sound and Energy are all God given and how best we can use these.
