Sense of Taste

Give each child a pinch of salt to taste.
We have experienced the sense of smell and sight. This week, my dear children, let us explore the sense of taste.

You just tasted a pinch of salt and each of you have different expressions on your face. Is it very difficult to taste salt?

Now, let us close our eyes. Imagine, lots of delicious food are kept in front of us. There are dhal, Mutter Paneer, potatoes, rice, roti and many more. Of course, there is a vessel filled with your favourite dish too. Each of us takes a plate and spoon and serves some rice, dhal and potatoes.

As we start eating, we realise that the dhal does not taste as it should. In fact, it is very difficult to eat it. Ohh! There is no salt in it. Add little salt and start eating again.

As you bite the boiled potatoes, the taste is horrible. It is too salty. Ohh! I can’t eat that anymore! How soon the expression in your face changes!

When we eat food, the salt should be the right quantity in each dish. If the salt is too much, we avoid the food. If it is too little, the food tastes bland. So, salt should be used in a limited quantity.

We are like salt. As the salt has its limit for everything, we also need to follow our limitation which is known as discipline. It is said “A dish without salt is worth going into the dust bin”. God has created taste buds and taste.
