Go Green-ma
Go Green
Objective:
The environment provides us countless benefits that can hardly be repaid during our lifetime. It is highly important that we create awareness among the children to take small steps that will go a long way in protecting and preserving the same for the posterity.
‘Go green’, as a group activity, intends to develop in them deep concern for the environment.
Related Values:
- Awareness
- Empathy
- Love for nature
- Decision making
- Responsibility
- Good citizenship
Materials Required:
- Two sets slips
- Set A – How are we polluting the environment?
- Set B – How can we protect the environment
- A black bin
- A green basket
How to Play
- The Guru splits her class into two groups and makes them stand in two rows face to face.
- She keeps the black bin and the green basket in the front of the children.
- She distributes all the 20 slips among the children.
- She then explains the activity to the children that one by one, each has to to read out the message on his slip loudly and decide where to put the slip, either in the black bin or the green basket, based on what is written on his slip.
- For example: The Guru reads out one of the slips- ‘using plastic bags’ and throws it in the black bin. Another slip reading- ‘fixing a leaky tap’ is placed lovingly in the green basket.
- At the end of the activity, the children learn ways to avoid polluting and begin protecting the earth as every little act on their part will go a long way in safeguarding the environment and preserving its pristine glory.
