Purushah – Further Reading

Purushah sa parah Paartha bhaktyaa labhyas tva ananyayaa
Yasya antahshthaani bhootaani yena sarvam idam tatam

(chap. 8, verse 22)

O Paartha! The Supreme Person is attainable by single pointed devotion. Within him, all beings dwell and by Him, all is pervaded.

Baba says, “The Supreme Lord within whom all beings dwell, and who dwells in all beings can be won over, not by empty rituals, but by all inclusive love.

The Jagat (Universe) is saturated with Jagad-isha (Lord of the Universe).

To experience God’s Presence and His Glory, there is no special place, for He is everything, everywhere, always.”

The Gopikas’ Devotion

Sri Krishna once enacted a small drama to demonstrate how the devotion of the illiterate gopikas (cowherdesses) of Brindavan was deeper than that of Rukmini, Sathyabhama or even the sage Narada. He pretended that He was suffering from a severe headache and that only the application of the dust from the feet of a devotee would cure Him. Rukmini, Sathyabhama and Narada were not willing to offer the dust from their feet to pollute the Divine Head of Lord Krishna.

However, when Narada approached the gopikas, they had no hesitation in giving the dust from their feet, because their only concern was to relieve their beloved Krishna of His pain instantly, even though they were warned by Narada of the dire consequences of their action. Krishna’s pain was ‘gone’ the moment the gopikas offered the dust from their feet.

The Divine exists in everything, in every being, in every foot, as well as in the dust from the foot. The gopikas saw Krishna in everything, in their feet, as well as in the dust of their feet and therefore they had no hesitation or fear of sin.

Narada realized that such totally all inclusive devotion exhibited by the gopikas was the highest form of devotion.
