Shri Ganesha-Activity

Making Ganesha out of peepal leaves

Values inculcated:
  1. Team spirit
  2. Making eco-friendly art work
  3. Encourages creativity
Materials Required :
  1. Peepal leaves (preferably the fallen leaves under peepal tree)
Getting ready:

The Guru can remind the children about the Ganesha shlokas and bhajans they have earlier learnt in class. The children should be asked to describe the physical attributes of Ganesha. Eg: huge body, elephant face, big ears etc.

Depending upon the number of children in class, groups can be made. The peepal leaves can be distributed. They can take as much as they want as every group’s image might be different.

Activity :

Ask the children to make an image of Lord Ganesha. Instruct them to work in groups and to maintain decorum in class. They can be encouraged to use their imagination.

The children can be taught a Bhajan on Lord Ganesha – by teaching them that Lord Ganesh is the one who can protect us (PAHI MAAM) and Save us (RAKSHA MAAM) in our difficult times.

The Gurus can say that this ‘Peepal Tree Leaves’ are different from other trees as the Peepal tree exhales Oxygen even during night time while the others do not. Similarly Lord Ganesha too will save us and protect us irrespective of Time and Place (Pahimam & Rakshamam) if we sincerely pray to Him with Pure Love and Devotion.

Many Places in India we can find Ganesha Statues beneath the Peepal Tree (Arasa Maram – as it is called in Tamil) – It is known as the King of all Trees as it emits the maximum amount of Ozone (O3) which is very good for Human beings.

Now lets pray to lord Ganesha by singing a bhajan
  • Shri Ganesha Shri Ganesha Shri Ganesha Paahimaam
  • Jaya Ganesha Jaya Ganesha Jaya Ganesha Rakshamaam
  • Shri Ganesha Paahimaam Jaya Ganesha Rakshamaam
  • Jaya Ganesha Jaya Ganesha Jaya Ganesha Rakshamaam
