  1. What are called Dharma Shastras?
    ANS: To guide us in our conduct, our sastras have laid down codes of moral values or ethical codes- the Dos and Donts. These are called Dharma Sastras.
  2. What are the five cardinal principles of life for man?
    ANS: Sathya, Dharma, Shanthi, Prema and Ahimsa

    ANS: Vachasyekam, Karmanyekam
  4. What is meant by Trikala Sathya?
    ANS: Trikala satya is the unchanging and the eternal reality, the self, the God, the Spirit, the Supreme Consciousness.
  5. What are the Purusharthas?
    ANS: The 4 Purusharthas – goals of life are: Dharma, Artha, Kama & Moksha
  6. Swami’s definition of all the five values
    ANS:

    Sathya

    The fulfillment of the quest (the search) of the intellect in truth and being. This is the paramathmic (spiritual) meaning of Sathya. In the ethical sense, it implies a) truthfulness of speech and b) harmony in thought word and deed (Manasyekam, Vachasyekam, Karmanyekam)

    Dharma

    The disciplining of the human will for doing the right action always. Dharma encompasses all duties of man; it implies right moral conduct.

    Shanthi

    Swami describes shanthi as “the resolution of all the welter and conflict of human emotions into the basic attitude of peace”. It is desires that create agitations in the mind and a mind freed of desires goes back to the state of peace. The highest state of peace (Prashanthi) is bliss or ananda.

    Prema

    Prema is the awakening of the soul and the blossoming and expansion of the heart and spontaneous outpouring of love towards all.

    Ahimsa

    Ahimsa is the result of total blossoming of the soul and the state of Advaitic awareness, the oneness and the unity of all existence. It is a state and sense of feeling of total identity with all life and creation.

    ANS: 1.Love is selflessness, 2.Love lives by giving and forgiving, Self lives by getting and forgetting. 3.Love all serve all.
