Story
Mothers are special

Ramesh lived with his parents. One day when he was talking with his friends he learnt that they all got pocket money whenever they helped their parents and elders in their houses Ramesh’s parents bought him whatever he wanted, if they felt it was all right for him to have it, and if they could afford it.He too had to help his mother like other children. but he never got any pocket money for that. So Ramesh decided that he will help his parents in house work only if he got pocket money for doing so. So next day he did not tidy up his bed or room nd when his mother asked him to do it , He told her that he would do it only if she paid him for it. His mother could not understand what he said Ramesh refused to help his mother with any work unless she paid him pocket money. In the evening, when he returned from school, hungry, he noticed that there was nothing but a note on the dining table.

Dear Ramesh

Here is a list of things I do for you everyday.

  • I rise much earlier than anyone else and get things ready for the day.
  • I make breakfast the way you all like it.
  • I pack your lunch box..
  • My whole day is busy like yours and I too am tired when I come back from the office
  • In the evening, while you rest, play, relax with a book or watch TV, I cook dinner
  • After dinner is over and you go to bed, I clear up and get things ready for the next day
  • I keep the house clean, wash and iron, do the shopping, keep every meal ready on time, help you with your studies and do anything else you want
  • On Sundays when all of you are free, I am not
  • I do not have summer holidays or any holiday for that matter. Now tell me, do you think I should do all this for you every day without any payment? Mother

Now tell me, do you think I should do all this for you every day without any payment? Mother

Ramesh hung his head in shame as he read the note. Then he went up to his mother, hugged her and said, “Sorry mother. I will never speak like that again. Please forgive me!”

His mother hugged him and said, “I wrote that note only to make you understand things better. Helping each other and working together in a family is joy. It is not something for which you ask payment. Never ask for money to do work for your family.

Song

Mother of mine you gave to me, all of my life to do as I please,
I owe everything I have to you,
Mother sweet mother of mine.
Mother of mine when I was young
You showed me the right way things had to be done,
Without your arms where would I be,
Mother sweet mother of mine.
Mother you gave me happiness, much more than words can say,
I thank the lord let me breathe with you, every night and every day.
Mother of mine now I am grown and I can walk straight all on my own,
I’d like to give you what you gave to me,
Mother sweet mother of mine.
Mother of mine now I am grown and I can walk straight all on my own,
I’d like to give you what you gave to me,
Mother sweet mother of mine.
