Dwaraka
Dwaraka is one of the four sacred dhams of India. It is the city, where Krishna ruled as King. The legendary city is not man-made. After Krishna chose the spot, Vishwakarma planned and built the city. A few years after the Mahabharata war, Gandhari’s curse materialised. The Yadavas fought against each other and killed themselves.
The Dwapara yuga had ended and Krishna Avatara’s purpose was fulfilled. Once a paradise, Dwaraka became a wasteland. Later, all that was associated with the memory of Krishna was also destroyed by the sea. But, to this day, pilgrims flock to Dwaraka and consider the place, where Krishna once ruled, as very holy and sacred.
The present temple stands on the banks of river Gomati and the four-handed graceful image of Krishna brings back memories of the Divine Child to the ardent devotees.
It was here that Mira passed the last days of her life and in the end, she entered the shrine and became one with the Lord.
