PERIOD 2 – REVISION

Revision Of Karagre
Story Of Pretty Hands

Once God sent his angel in search of the prettiest hands! He said, “Go and bring to me a man from the earth, who has the prettiest hands!”

The angel came upon the earth at midnight thinking that all the people would be at rest, and work would become easy as the angel can observe their hands from a very close distance.

The angel first came to the palace thinking that hands of the queen would be the prettiest as it would be well decorated with jewels and nourished by ointments.

But when the angel entered the queen’s chamber, there was an unpleasant smell in the air. It was the smell of the bad actions done by the queen. Her hands had done many cruel things. Same was the case with the king. The angel then visited the house of the nobles, knights and the merchants thinking that their hands may have performed good deeds and thus would have acquired beauty. But the angel was disappointed.

Then the angel turned towards the temple quite happy with the thought that at least one of the pundits may have pretty hands. But alas! There too he was disappointed. They were also full of ego.

The angel was very sad. With a very heavy heart, the angel came to the open fields and sat under a tree. The angel thought how to face the Lord without having completed the task allotted to him ! And suddenly there was a lovely fragrance which drifted towards the angel from somewhere. When the angel looked around there were no flowers, trees nor any fragrant plants! The angel searched all around in the dark.

The angel saw a farmer sleeping on the ground in the open fields. The angel bent near him and saw the palms of the farmer. Though rough and brown they were shining with a glow! The farmer was fast asleep and from his palms wafted a lovely fragrance and the atmosphere was cool and pleasant

The angel carried the farmer to God but was quite puzzled. The angel asked God how the farmer could have prettier hands than king and the queen. God was pleased that the angel had made the right choice. He explained to the angel that the farmer was thankful to God for giving him two strong hands to work with. He also knew that his hands were merely tools and that he had to use this tool given to him by God for HIS purpose.

Therefore the farmer used his hands to gain knowledge and to give that knowledge to others. He used them to toil in the fields and to grow corn and thus become prosperous. He also used them to give away corn to the needy, he healed others wounds with his hands. He was never proud of his achievements but always folded his palms before the Lord. Thus, the farmer acquired knowledge, wealth and prosperity through his own efforts and now with those noble deeds, he had reached the Lord and had merged with HIM. Thus the farmer had attained Godhood.

Period 5 – 5 Elements

Everything in this world is made up of 5 elements – explain 5 elements and their attributes and the 5 sense organs connected to it.

Story

Once upon a time, there were 4 royal deities called Air, Water, Earth and Fire. They looked upon an empty expanse called Space and decided to build a palace for themselves to live.

Earth created metal and dirt and rock and pulled all of these into a ball in the space provided and sank deep into it.

Water created oceans, lakes, rivers and creeks in deep crags of Earth’s face and filled them with a liquid as beautiful as herself sinking into Earth.

Fire created lightning, sparks and solidly glowing flames dancing on Earth and sat deeply into his fires.

Air claimed all else for herself. She was the fairest of them all and quite possessive. She cleverly called all of this space Air and filled it with soft manipulative gas.

And so the elements were born and lived happily on their little planet. However soon they got bored. Their planet was too peaceful, too calm.

Water decided to create life and from waters came mammals and humans. Air and Fire were infinite and allowed humans to use them.

Earth went to sleep.

Water started training her beloved humans to tame the elements, using each of them against each other to become master of all. The humans were influenced by Earth.

Sharp – witted Air soon realized that Water was trying to have her own people so She created feathered beings , light who flew and glided in air. These birds shunned Earth and Water except to hunt the beings on Earth and nest in the highest branches of the trees. Fire had little impact on them. They were Air’s pride and joy.

Water soon grew envious and created cold bodied animals with rocky scales. They shunned Air and Fire, breathing water and living in the icy depths.

Fire grew jealous because neither birds nor the scaly creatures used him and humans were trying to tame him to fight other elements. So he created monsters who could fly and breathe fire. These monsters revenged themselves upon Earth and Water. The beings of Earth and Water came together to protect Earth and themselves.

Fire grew more angrier as Air gave more speed to her birds and he gave power to his monsters to appear anywhere faster than other elements.

These monsters ate humans, mammals and Fire and Air ruled the world for some time.

Angered and upset, Water created Gods born to battle the creatures created by Fire and Air.

For a millennium, war raged on the planet and creatures, demon, natural, and divine died. Air fouled, Earth burned, water sullied and Fire abused.

Air was horrified , she created another dimension and demanded that Gods be sent there. Water was equally horrified and said the demons should go there.

The quarrel was unresolved and the war continued.

During a particular bad day during the war, Earth, the most sensible and logical of the elements, fully woke and shook the planet. Out of fear that their ground was shaking, all creatures cowered in fear. Earthbound them away from each other and called for a meeting of all elements.

He demanded that this war end before any of the elements had died. He decided that the monsters created by Fire were too powerful and must be sent into this other dimension. He said even the Gods must be sent there as they were also equally powerful. All agreed to this plan. The immortal forces were exiled and the world set to rebuilding itself.

Air gave Water a portion of her birds. They fished and stood in the Water. In return Water made some fish jumping out of water into air. They sparkled and flashed as they jumped spun and twisted. Air was very happy and gave Water her final gift – the tides. Water was very happy and Air and Water became very close friends.

Earth gave Fire permission to burn him in small, controlled sections as burning was what Fire did and in return Fire gave Earth’s men permission to use him to progress their culture.

They also had an idea called a volcano, where all four elements would be incorporated to make something able to be triggered by any one of them, to affect anything on the planet.

Earth constructed a mountain in the middle of Water, and Fire filled it with Lava. Air added pressure and soon the mountain erupted, perfectly fusing all four elements to begin making another land mass, born of all of them.

Ever since then all four elements have been friends. Earth might grumble, Fire might break out but never again there has been a war between them of that magnitude.

Period 32 – Honesty

Story

Ramu was well – known in the village as an honest milkman. He had two sons, Surya and Chandra. Time and again, Ramu used to tell them, “look here, never deceive or cheat any one. Honest labour alone gives you real peace and happiness in life.

One day, Ramu severely scolded Surya for not taking the cattle for grazing. Surya felt so much hurt that he left home, determined never to return.

Old Ramu would feel worried and miserable whenever he remembered Surya. A few days before his death, Ramu said to Chandra, “My dear son, try your best to find our Surya, your brother. You can recognize him by the big, black scar on his forehead. Out of the ten buffaloes we have, give him five as his share.” After Ramu’s death, Chandra used to go to every fair and mela in the nearby villages, hoping to find Surya there. But all his efforts were in vain.

One day, Chandra was returning home with the buffaloes after their grazing. On the way, he saw a stranger in the village sitting under a tree. As Chandra came close to him, he was surprised to find a big, black scar on his forehead. He recognized him as his brother. But he was very much pained to see him in soiled and torn clothes. So, he almost wept as he said, “Oh brother Surya, why are you leading a miserable life and wearing such clothes? Come home with me. Take five out of the ten buffalo’s father has left for us and leads a happy life, selling mild and butter.” Surya went home with his brother. But he was silent all the time. After having food together, Chandra spread a big carpet and soon, both were fast asleep.

Next morning, Chandra woke up and, to his surprise, found that Surya had left with the five buffaloes. But, then, a doubt arose in his mind. “Why should Surya run away with the buffaloes? I hope, I have not been cheated by a rogue.” After some thinking he consoled himself, “I have been honest and done just as Pitaji advised me, God be witness to it. Why, then, should I worry?’

After a few days, a nice bullock-cart stopped in front of Chandra’s door. As Chandra peeped out, he saw a person with a big, black scar on his forehead coming towards him. But now, he was quite decently dressed and looked like a rich man. He came close to Chandra and said, with a smile, “Oh brother, didn’t you recognize me” But Chandra replied in a sad tone, “Brother, I do recognize you. But I have committed a grave mistake. “Two weeks ago, I gave away your five buffaloes to someone else, mistaking him for you. But then, I don’t want you to suffer for my folly. I will give you the five buffaloes which are mine.

Embracing his brother, Surya said, “My dear Chandra, you have not committed any mistake. I myself had some at that time dressed as a poor man, to test your honesty. Indeed, you are as honest as our beloved Pitaji himself. By his blessing, I too have built up a good business in fruits and vegetables. It has made me a rich man. Now, I have a big house in the town, this bullock cart and a small fruit garden as well. I have come to take you to town to stay with me. I have purchased a small room in the market for you where you can start a dairy and sell milk and sweets.”

Both the brother then went in, hand-in-hand, and standing before their father’s small photograph said, “Pitaji, you taught us to be always honest. Indeed, we are very fortunate to have learnt it from you. Today is our honesty that is giving us peace and joy, which no amount of money can ever give.”

Period 23 – Sharing and Caring

Story
Lizard Lessons

This is a true story that happened in Japan. In order to renovate his house, a owner broke open the wall. Japanese houses normally have a hollow space between the wooden walls.

While tearing down the walls, he found that there was a lizard stuck there, because a nail from outside had hammered into one of its feet.

He saw this, felt pity, and at the same time got curious. He checked and found that the nail was hammered six years ago when the house was originally built!

Amazingly, the lizard had survived in such a dangerous position for six years – in a dark wall partition without moving!

It was impossible! Then he wondered how this lizard survived for six years, without moving a single step!

So he stopped his work and observed the lizard; what it had been doing, and what and how it had been eating.

Soon, another lizard appeared with food in its mouth for its friend who was nailed to the wall. It had been feeding it for the past six years….

It had been doing it untiringly for six long years, without giving up hope on its partner.

Imagine what a small creature did, that even humans blessed with brilliant minds don’t usually do!
