Significance of God’s Avatar

A famous story of Akbar and Birbal is worth a mention here to understand the significance of God’s Avatar.

Once, Emperor Akbar asked his minister, “Birbal, your Hindu Gods are strange. Even for a very small reason, God Himself rushes to help His devotees. Your God, Krishna too is famous for this. Well, doesn’t Krishna have any assistants to help out?”

Birbal thought out a plan to prove the truth. He arranged for a wax model of Akbar’s grandson. As instructed by Birbal, a royal servant was holding the wax model and stood near the pool when Akbar and Birbal came for an evening walk in the garden. The king had no clue that it was wax. Suddenly, he heard a splash and the servant screamed, “Prince! Oh the Prince!”. Akbar rushed to the spot and without losing a second, jumped into the pool. Birbal asked Akbar very innocently, “Jahapannah! Why did you have to jump into the pool yourself? You could have asked your servant to jump into the pool.” Akbar replied “Birbal, What are you talking about? I thought it was my own grandson. He means to me, more than my own life! Why would I want someone else to rescue him?” Birbal smiled and said “You are right, your majesty! Our Gods too feel the same way. The devotees who seek help from Lord Krishna are very dear to Him”.

Our dear Swami also came into this world to take care of His children. Pouring grace on the devout is one of the Avatar’s main missions. We should always remember and truly believe in Swami’s words, “Why fear when I am there”.
