Horse tail millet ( kuthira vali) are tiny white round grains belongs to millets family.

It is very healthy breakfast.Let us see how to make pongal using horse tail rice.

Horse Tail Pongal

Preparation Time: 15 mins
Serves: 4 persons

Ingredients

  • Horse tail ( kuthira vali) rice - 1 cup
  • Moong dhall - 1/2 cup
  • Pepper - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Red chillies - 2
  • Curry leaves - 5-10
  • Cashew nut
  • Ghee
  • Salt

Method

  1. Wash the horse tail rice and Moong dhall together and drain the water.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add washed rice and Moong dhall ,add 41/2 cups of water ,ghee, salt and pepper.
  3. Pressure cook for 10 minutes or 3 whistles.
  4. In a pan , heat ghee, add Cumin seeds, cashews, red chillies , curry leaves and fry.
  5. Add this to the cooked rice and dhall mixture and mix well.
  6. Serve with chutney and sambhar.
