In a pressure cooker,cook Toor dhal and mash well. you can even use a mixie to make a smooth paste.
Slice onion ,green chillies.
In a deep pan, add onions, green chillies, curry leaves, Tamarind paste, turmeric powder, salt all in one go add little water .
No need to add oil. Now switch on the stove and boil on high flame for 2minutes.
Now add mashed dhall, Cumin powder and boil for another 5 minutes.
Add 1 cup of water and make thin like rasam. Boil for another 5 minutes.
Meanwhile for seasoning, heat oil and ghee in a pan add mustard, urad dhall, Cumin seeds, fenugreek , crushed garlic, red chillies and hing.
Now add it to the dhal.
Pappu chaaru is ready.Serve it with rice and papad.
VARIATIONS : We can add veggies like brinjal, drumstick and even tomatoes along with onions. Adjust the number of chillies according to taste.
