Puran poli is a sweet flat bread popular in south India and Maharashtra.It is also called as holige.This sweet is made mostly during Diwali and Ganesh chaturthi.Let us see how to make this easy, simple and delicious sweet.

PURAN POLI (BOBBATLU)

Prep Time: 1 hour
Cook Time: 30 mins
Yields: 12- 15 poli's

Ingredients

  • Channa dal - 1 cup
  • Jaggery (powdered ) - 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Maida ( all purpose flour ) - 1 cup
  • Pinch of salt
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • water for kneading

Method

  1. Soak 1 cup of channa dal ( kadalai paruppu) for 2 hours.
  2. Pressure cook for 5 whistles , drain the excess water.Mash it with a laddle to form a fine paste or even you can grind it in a mixer.
  3. In a deep thick bottomed pan, add jaggery, Cardamom powder and little water , allow it to boil till we get a thick Jaggery syrup.
  4. Add mashed channa dal to the Jaggery syrup and keep mixing on a low flame,till it becomes thick puran.
  5. For a dough, in a large mixing bowl,add Maida, pinch of​ salt, little water and knead it into a thick dough..
  6. Add 2 tsp of oil on the dough and rest it covered with moist cloth for 2 hours.
  7. After 2 hours , make small balls of dough and puran.
  8. For stuffing , spread Maida ball with finger to a flat base.
  9. Keep the puran stuffing on it and seal it all sides.
  10. Now press it flat slowly using fingers ,so that the filling doesn't come out.
  11. Heat a tawa, fry the stuffed poli with ghee.
  12. Puran poli is ready to serve.
