MASALA VADA (PARUPPU VADA)

Ingredients

  • Bengal gram (kadalai paruppu or channa dal)- 2 cups
  • Red chillies-4
  • Garlic-4 cloves
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 inch
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 teaspoon
  • Aniseed(big cumin or sombhu)- 1/2 teaspoon
  • Onion -1 cut to small pieces
  • Curry leaves few
  • Salt
  • Oil for deep frying

Method

  1. Soak gram dal for 2 hours
  2. In a mixie jar, add cinnamon, red chillies, garlic, cumin, aniseed and run for 10 seconds
  3. Drain the water from soaked dal..add half the dal to the mixie jar and run for 4 seconds
  4. Take the contents of the mixie jar into a bowl
  5. Add the remaining half of soaked dal without water
  6. Add onion pieces, curry leaves,salt and mix well
  7. Take small portion of the mix in your hand, shape into vadas
  8. Deep fry in hot oil. Serve with coconut chutney

    It’s tasty as we usually make at home many times. It consumes very less oil for frying as compared to pakodas
