POHA/AVAL UPMA

Poha/Aval upma is a healthy breakfast recipe ,which can be prepared in very few minutes time.It is very delicious and filling dish.Let is learn how to make poha/aval upma.

Wash poha/aval  twice in running water  and drain it in a colander. Sprinkle water and let it sit for 10 minutes.

In a pan, heat 3 tsp of oil and fry cashews till golden brown.

Add ginger,curry leaves,green chillies  and fry for a minute.

Now add onions and fry till the raw smell goes off.

Then add tomato and chopped vegetables,cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Now add poha and salt ,mix well.

Serve hot with coconut chutney.

Ingredients

  • Poha / Aval / Flattened rice - 1 cup
  • Onion - 1 big
  • Tomato -1 medium finely chopped
  • Green chillies - 3 medium
  • Carrot, beans and geen peas - 1 cup (chopped)
  • Grated ginger- 1 teaspoon
  • Oil - 2 to 3 teaspoons
  • Cashew nuts- 7
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Wash poha/aval twice in running water and drain it in a colander. Sprinkle water and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Finely chop all the vegetables and keep them ready
  3. In a pan, heat 3 tsp of oil and fry cashews till golden brown.
  4. Add ginger, curry leaves , green chillies and fry for a minute
  5. Now add the onions and fry till the raw smell goes off
  6. Then add tomato and chopped vegetables. Cover and cook for 5 minutes
  7. Now add poha and salt. Mix well
  8. Serve hot with coconut chutney.
