PERIOD 21 – GOD ALWAYS COMES TO HELP

Is there any need to be scared of anything? God loves you very much. Whenever you are afraid or feeling alone think of God and call Him to help you.

Story
Gajendra Moksha

Long, long ago, before the dawn of civilisation. India was full of thick forests. In one of these forests lived an elephant king, Gajendra

One day, Gajendra went for a walk, accompanied by his herd. It was summer evening and a cool breeze was blowing. Playfully breaking off the green branches of the trees and munching the leaves, they wandered for a long time and covered quite a distance. Then, in the midst of a thick clump of trees, they came across a huge lake of crystal clear water, full of lotuses. The elephant king was drawn towards the lake, which looked so inviting. He entered the lake along with his herd. They filled their trunks with water and sprayed it on one another playfully. When they lifted their trunks and blew out the water, it formed a fountain and touched the sky. Thus they played for many hours.

It was getting late and they had to return home. One by one, they started coming out of the lake. The last one to come out was Gajendra himself. As he was doing so, a crocodile shot up from under the water and caught hold of his foot.

Gajendra jerked his leg. The crocodile was alittle shaken but did not let go. Gajendra tried again and again to pull his leg free, but to no avail. Now a fight ensued. Gajendra pulled the crocodile towards the banks while the crocodile pulled the elephant towards the centre of the lake. Both being equally powerful, neither could win. Each succeeded alternately, but only partially, thus neither of them was free.

The fight continued for many years. Still neither gave up. The poor herd of Gajendra stood helplessly on the banks, hoping that Gajendra would soon become victorious, but in vain. The crocodile was in his own element, gaining strength day by day, while Gajendra, away from his home, got weaker and weaker, until one day he knew he could not fight any more. What was he to do now? His strength was ebbing away and so was his courage. He realized that God alone could be his protector.

He stopped fighting and lifting up his trunk, cried out in despair, “ O Lord of the Universe, who has created us all, protect me from the clutches of this terrible crocodile. Sages say you cannot be seen except with the inner eye. Wise men say that you are the shelter of the shelterless, the wealth of the poor, and the strength of the weak. I have lost all hope and faith in my own strength. Please come and rescue me from this terrible enemy. I have none but you as my refuge.”

The cry from his heart went straight to Lord Vishnu, who was in Vaikuntha playing a game with Lakshmi. While playing, he had tied the end of Lakshmi’s saree to his dhoti. When he heard the cry of Gajendra who was in great distress, He rose in a hurry, forgetting everyone. Like a mother who rushes to the side of her baby when it cries out, Lord-Vishnu ran out to the elephant king. He took His Chakra in hand and sent it flying to cut off the head of crocodile.

The Lord blessed Gajendra, who praised Him in several hymns. Thereafter, the elephant king lived happily with his wives, continuously remembering the Lord and singing His glories.

VALUE : FAITH (Story Of Jatila)
  • Once upon a time there was a small boy named Jatila who lived with his mother at the edge of a small forest. His mother was a poor lady who worked hard. Jatila had lost his father when he was very small. When Jatila was 6 years old, his mother decided to send him to an ashram school for his studies. To reach his school the boy had to cross the forest.
  • For a few days, mother went with him to show him the way. Then, as she had to go to work, she told him to go alone.
  • Early in the morning Jatila took his lunch packet and set out for school. At first he was happy as he walked along in the early morning fresh air. Watching the rabbits hopping about and listening to the sweet song of the birds he felt very happy.
  • But when he came to the forest he felt so alone. There were big trees around and here and there were dark shadows moving in the breeze. Jatila was frightened and ran as fast as he could. He did not stop at all till he reached the school. After school when he had to go through the forest again he was filled with fear. He raced through the forest till he reached the safety of his home and mother.
  • The next day Jatila refused to go school. “It is so lonely in the forest, mother. I cannot go alone. I wish you would take me to school. I cannot go alone.” Poor mother was worried. She had to go to work. How could she walk with him? “O God, please help me! I am alone, please look after my son.” She prayed. Then she told Jatila, “Son don’t be afraid. When you reach the forest call out to Madhusudhan who is your elder brother. He will surely walk with you to school.”
  • Jatila had full faith in his mother’s words. Next day when Jatila entered the forest he called out “Brother Madhusudhan, please come soon. I am frightened. Mother said you will come as soon as I call you. Please come soon.” In answer he heard the sweet notes of flute and soon saw a lovely, young curly-haired boy coming towards him. “I’m here brother!” The boy with the flute, smiled and hugged him. Jatila felt so happy and safe! Holding hands, chatting and laughing they both skipped along through the forest.
  • “There now go to school. In the evening call out for me and we will go back home together!” So saying brother Madhusudhan waved to him and walked away. When Madhusudhan was far away he once again turned back and waved to him. Jatila too waved back feeling so very happy.
  • Finally Madhusudhan disappeared!
  • Now Jatila was very happy to go to school. Many days passed. Every morning and evening Jatila would call out to Madhusudhan and together they would walk through the forest. One day his mother said,” Son, I’m so happy and proud of you. You are going to school alone, without fear!” “Mother, brother Madhusudhan is so kind. He plays the flute so well and tells me such nice stories I enjoy his songs too.So I love to go to school.”
  • Mother was puzzled. “Did you meet Madhusudan?” she asked. “Of course mother, he walks with me everyday. So why should I be afraid? Please give my tiffin box soon. Madhusudan will be waiting for me! I must hurry.”
  • After Jatila left, mother quietly followed him, down the road. Yes, she heard her son call out to Madhushudan.
Yes she too heard the sweet notes of the flute, and saw the lovely curly-haired boy come out from behind the trees. Cheerfully he greeted Jatila and together they disappeared into the forest.
  • With tears in her eyes, mother hurried back to her shrine room and wept with joy, at the feet of her Lord.
  • This is the greatness of Lord. He always listens to the sincere prayers of HIS devotees and comes to their rescue.

He made us and gave us all the talents we have. He also sent all His Messengers to teach us all how to live together happily. we should always say ‘thank you’ to people who do things for us. We can also do kind and helpful things for them. . We also need to thank God every day, for everything He has given to us. How do we show God as well as tell Him that we are thankful, when we cannot see Him? The best way to thank God is to love one another! Our thanks must come from the heart. To show how thankful we are to God we must do what will please God. We must obey God. Here is a story about a boy who learnt kindness from a little cat.

Story
The Loving Cat

Sunil was very lonely. He had no-one to play with. No friends lived nearby. What could he do? Just then a little cat came in through the window and jumped down onto the floor. “Shoo! Shoo!” said-Sunil. It was then that he could see that it was limping. “Ag, shame!” he said. “What is the problem?” He picked up the little cat and then he found that it had a sore on its foot. “Wait a bit. I know what I can do. I’ll put some ointment on it.” He carried the cat into the bathroom where he found the ointment and put some on the cat’s foot. The cat began to purr. It rubbed itself against his legs to say ‘thank you’. When the family had supper he fed the cat and when he went to bed it jumped up onto his bed and slept there all night. The next morning his mother said, “You know Sunil, that is not your cat and some people might be very worried to have lost their cat. You should go to see the new people who have moved in next door and ask if they know anyone who has lost a cat. Sunil picked up the little cat and went next door. He knocked on the door. Before he could ask if anyone had lost a cat, the little boy who answered called out, “Mommy, Mommy, here is someone with my cat!” He held out his hands to take the cat. He stroked it and hugged it. “I am so happy to have my cat back. I thought that he had run away and that I would never see him again.” Just then the mother came in. “Oh, thank you so much for finding our cat. A dog bit it and it ran away. I see that you have been very kind to him. You are welcome to come and play here. Thank you so much for finding him.”Because Sunil was kind he is now welcome to play next door.

How can you keep your home and school clean? Mosquitoes and disease-carrying insects breed in dirty water rubbish heap. So it is important to keep our homes and the places around them clean.

Story
Monkey Manners

Anil went to a zoo with his parents. He enjoyed seeing all the big and small animals. He saw the squirrels, the majestic lion, the hissing snakes, the ducks in the pond, the different coloured fishes and so

He felt hungry after walking a such a long distance he asked his mother for something to eat. His gave him a banana. Anil loved bananas.

He was about to eat it when he saw a monkey looking at him. He gave his banana to the monkey another for himself

After eating the banana what did Anil do? He threw the peel of banana on the ground.

The monkey ate the banana and looked at Anil. It took its peel and threw it in the dustbin.

How ashamed Anil felt.

Even animals know how to keep clean. Cats dig holes, use them and then cover the holes by pushing mud in with their paws. Dogs and many other animals lick their babies and their own bodies. In they keep clean. We have many easier ways of keeping ourselves clean because we have hands.

Do not throw things out of a bus or car window. Sharpen pencils held over a waste paper basket. paper or rubbish only in dustbins. Never scribble or scratch on walls, desks or books. Put away your after playtime.

PERIOD 15 – CLEANLINESS

Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness

We should be clean in our thoughts, We should keep our body clean and wear, clean clothes. This helps to keep us healthy. It is nice to be near clean people, and we usually avoid those who are really dirty. By washing our hands after we use the toilet, and before we eat, we can stop ourselves getting many tummy problems like diarrhea. Even if our hands look clean they can be carrying nasty little germs that can make us sick.

Story
Anil and the football

One day Anil took his football outside and called his friend, “Come and we can go and play with this ball down on the field.” They played there happily for a long time. Then Anil gave a big kick and the ball went high into the air and landed in a big puddle. This was a very dirty puddle because the water came from the rubbish dump. Anil just went in and took up the ball and gave it a kick or two. Then because his hands were wet and dirty he wiped them on his trousers. Just then his friend said, “You know, I’m very hungry. I’m sure it is lunch time.” “Yes,” said Anil. “I’m also very hungry. Let’s go home.” He picked up his ball and off they ran. When Anil got home he rushed into the kitchen. His mother said, “Gosh, where have you been? You are very late and we have already eaten, but I didn’t forget you and have put some sandwiches for you in this lunch box.” Anil grabbed the sandwiches and went outside to eat them. Then mother came outside. “Goodness, you are dirty! Did you wash your hands before you ate your sandwiches?” “Oh, I forgot,” said Anil. During the night, Anil began to feel sick. He had a stomach ache and then he began to vomit. Oh, he was so sick! His mother tried to help him and by morning he was feeling a bit better, but weak. Mother said, “You know that I have told you again, and again how important it is to keep clean. I am sure you were sick because your hands were filthy when you ate your sandwiches yesterday. I hope that you have learnt a lesson. Wash your hands before you eat especially when you have been playing outside.”

Song

“Hear we go”

Here we go round the values tree,
The values tree, the values tree
Here we go round the values tree
On a bright and frosty morning.
This is the way we brush our teeth,
Brush our teeth, brush our teeth
This is the way we brush our teeth
To keep them bright and shining.
This is the way we comb our hair ….
To keep them neat and tidy.
This is the way we take a bath….
To look fresh and charming.
This is the way we clean our room ….
So properly and handy.
This is the way we eat our food….
Which makes us strong and healthy.
Come on let us pray to God…
Who keeps us always happy.

The soldiers tried to push the horse into the pond, but he pushed and kicked the soldiers. The soldiers returned to the castle and reported to the king that the horse has gone mad.
