Gandhiji, the Father of the Nation fought against the British rule with truth and ahimsa as his only weapons. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s iron will and the burning desire to free India enabled him to overcome several hardships. ‘Swaraj is my birth right’ was the favourite slogan of Lokamanya Tilak who transformed the local festival of Ganesha into a national festival. The Tamil poet Subramanya Bharati’s songs evoked a sense of equality, universal love and courage and were a clarion call to the freedom fighters!!
