Every year in December, Christmas is celebrated to mark the event of the birth of Christ. The word ‘Christmas’ means the Mass (celebration) of Christ. ‘Christ’ is a Greek title, meaning ‘anointed one’ or one set apart by God for a special purpose. Sometimes, the word is shortened and written as ‘X-Mas’. The ‘X’ stands for the Greek letter which, in Greece, is the first letter of Christ’s name and frequently used there as a holy symbol. People attend midnight prayers in churches on Christmas Eve.The next day is spent in celebration. Christmas is a time of joy, caring and sharing.
