The sacred ash (Thiruneeru) is beyond the understanding of even Vishnu and Brahma. The gods in heaven wear this white ash on their bodies. It removes the sufferings of the body and gives happiness. This holy ash belongs to Lord Shiva of Thiruvālavāy (Madurai), who drank the poison and kept it in His throat.
