திருஞான சம்பந்தர்
தேவாரம் பாடிய மூவருள் ஒருவரான சம்பந்தர், தம் மூன்று வயதில் உமையவளோடு சிவபெருமானைத் தரிசித்த பால யோகி. பெரியோர் அதிசயத்தக்க வகையில் தம் ஏழு வயதில் வேதங்களைக் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்தார். சிறு வயது முதல் பல பதிகங்களைப் பாடி சிவ பக்தர்களின் உள்ளங்களைக் கொள்ளைக் கொண்டார். ஒருமுறை திருகோலக்கா சென்று, கைசிவக்கத் தாளம் இட்டு “மடையில் வாளை பாய” என்ற திருப்பதிகம் பாடினார். அப்பொழுது பாட்டிற்கு உருகிய பரமன் சிறுவனுக்குக் கை நோவுமென்று ஐந்தெழுத்து வரையப்பெற்ற பொன்னாலான தாளம் தந்து அருளினார். அந்தத் தாளத்திற்கு நல்ல ஓசை உண்டாகும்படி அம்பிகை அருள் செய்தாள்.
கையில் தாளத்தோடு கூடிய, அந்த பால யோகி சம்பந்தரை, இந்த மார்கழித்தி திங்களில், கோலமாக வரைந்து அஞ்சலி செலுத்துவோம்!
One of the three prominent Tamil poets of the 7th century – Sambandar, had the privilege of having the divine vision of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati when he was barely three years old. At the tender age of seven he was able to explain the Vedas, to the amazement of all! He went on to compose many Pathigams that won the heart of many devotees of Lord Shiva. Once while rendering a Pathigam, Sambandar’s hands turned red due to clapping in ecstasy. Lord Shiva gave him a pair of golden cymbals to prevent the pain and Mother Parvathi infused Divine energy into them so that they produce musical sounds.
