திருநாவுக்கரசர்
தேவாரம் பாடிய மூவரில் ஒருவரான திருநாவுக்கரசர், இறைவனிடம் தம்மைத் தாசனாக பாவித்து பக்தி செலுத்தியவர். மனதால் இறைவனைத் தியானம் செய்வதும், நாவால் தேவாரப் பதிகங்கள் பாடியும், உடலால் திருக்கோயில் உழவாரப்பணி செய்வதும் என மனம் மொழி மெய் என்ற மூன்றாலும் திருத்தொண்டு ஆற்றியவர். அவர் கோயில் பிரகாரங்களில் உள்ள புற்களை உழவாரத்தைக் (புல்லை செதுக்க உதவும் கருவி) கொண்டு செதுக்கிச் சீர் செய்வது வழக்கம். அதனால் அவருடைய ஓவியங்களிலும், சிலைகளிலும் அவர் தம் கரங்களில் உழவாரத்தை ஏந்தியவாறு இருப்பதைக் காணலாம். உழவாரப் படையாளி என அழைக்கப்பட்ட திருநாவுக்கரசரின் திருவுருவத்தை, அவரது அடையாளச் சின்னமான உழவாரத்துடன், கோலமாக வரைந்து மகிழ்வோம்!
The great poet saint, Appar Thirunaavukarasar – The King of Divine Speech, considered himself to be a servitor to the Lord. His devotion was so deep that his mind always dwelled in the loving thoughts of the Lord. He was known for composing hymns that had words with profound meanings. He also served the Lord by keeping the temple premises clean. Thus, he served the Lord through his thoughts, words and deed! The pictures of this Nayanar found in the Puranam is unique as he is always seen to be holding a small spade in his hand. He used this spade to trim the overgrown grass in the temple premises. We are happy to share step by step making of this Rangoli of Thirunavukarasar holding his trademark spade in his hand!
